PlopIt vs IKEA Kreativ: which room visualizer is right?

Quick verdict

IKEA Kreativ and PlopIt are aimed at the same outcome — "will this look good in my room?" — from different directions. Kreativ is IKEA's own tool: you scan your room with the IKEA app (or upload photos in some markets), then place IKEA products into the scanned space. It's polished and free, but limited to IKEA's catalog. PlopIt takes any product link — Amazon, Wayfair, Pepperfry, IKEA included — and drops it into a photo of your real room. If you're shopping IKEA, Kreativ is excellent. If you're shopping anywhere else, PlopIt is the option.

What IKEA Kreativ is

IKEA Kreativ is IKEA's room-visualization feature, built into the IKEA app and (in some markets) on ikea.com. It uses your phone to scan your room into a 3D-ish space (an AR-driven point cloud) or accept room photos, then lets you place IKEA furniture into the scanned space. The product images are IKEA's own 3D models, so the placement is accurate and visually clean. The tradeoff is the obvious one: the catalog is IKEA-only. Kreativ is free, requires the IKEA app on a supported phone, and works best in markets where IKEA's local catalog is complete.

When to pick PlopIt

Pick PlopIt when the product you want is from anywhere other than IKEA — an Amazon sofa, a Pepperfry mandir, a Wayfair rug. PlopIt is also faster when you only need a single quick check and don't want to install an app.

When to pick IKEA Kreativ

Pick IKEA Kreativ when you're committed to shopping IKEA. The 3D models are accurate (IKEA built them), the placement quality is polished, and you can plan a whole room from one catalog. Within IKEA's lane, it's better than a general-purpose AI tool.
